An aide from the first grade came into the office with a young boy. The sad thing is that any random person could OCR the text, spend a night proof-reading it, print it on their home laser printer, and come up with a far better-looking book (did I mention the binding is 2 staples?)Ī counterargument is that it only costs around $7, but the Jordanville "Prayer Book and Psalms, Pocket Edition" - another Orthodox prayer book - is $10, has more than twice the number of pages (this book does not include the Psalms), and is printed and bound beautifully.I was sitting at my desk after checking in on each of the faith formation classes.

What makes it all the worse is that this degenerate art of bookmaking isn't for say a technical manual for some off-brand direct-from-china throw-away piece of consumer electronics, but for a holy book for the worship of almighty God.Įveryone involved with this book - the Antiochian Orthodox Christians, Metropolitan Philip (how could any man of God sign off on such trash?), et al should be deeply ashamed. I literally couldn't do as bad a job as this if I was trying to do as slipshod a job as possible. A typography class could use it as its example of worst practices. It's sort of impressive in its representation of the lowest-quality workmanship in every way I have seen before, and some I have not. Some pages have different characters out of alignment with the rest, some are randomly in smaller or different fonts. Some pages look like 15th generation photocopies some pages look like they were produced by malfunctioning dot-matrix, inkjet, or laser printers some pages look like the feed mechanism was messed, others the printhead.

Overall, a great little book - especially for Christians who travel often! While I didn't expect it, there is also the Divine Liturgy in it - which is a great resource if you find yourself away from being able to worship in person at an Orthodox parish and resort to live-streaming the Divine Liturgy instead. The prayers themselves, as is the case with Orthodox worship, are really beautiful compositions and do a great job in bringing one to a place of recognizing the sovereignty of God, acknowledging His power and holiness, while guiding one to making a respectful petition or praise of God. This copy that I've got has an attractive, durable cover, and it's printing is legible and easy to read.įor a pilot like me and for others in other itinerant professions, this is a really a great resource - easily fits into shirt or pants pockets or folders. While panned by earlier reviewers for sloppy printing and shabby format, apparently, its publishers have taken the negative feedback for action. I'd first of it from Steve Tobey on his "Gospel Minute Live" Bible study on YouTube. For a pilot like me and for others This really is a compact convenient little reference that's great for Orthodox Christians - especially for those of us on the go.
